ESSENTIALS
PERSONALITY Upon first impression, one will discover that Youta gives off a very laid-back and composed demeanor. It makes it very easy to get to know him. He's amicable by nature and, for the most part, accepts people as they are because he sees them at face-value. He has no expectations from others and understands that people are human. However, he also feels that people should understand that he, too, is flawed and just as human as they are. Despite his pacifistic nature, it is possible for him to get into arguments about this. Truth be told, he fears failure, but at the same time, has also become rather desensitized to it.
Still, Youta makes an incredibly loyal friend. He is a follower, and he knows this completely. He appears naive to people, but they would be incorrect to feel that he doesn't completely understand what happens around him or behind his back. However, deep down inside, Youta feels that the fact that he allows himself to be strung along without biting back makes things worse than being blind to circumstances altogether. Youta is quick to identify problems and past failures, but he appears to genuinely believe that he is incapable of bettering himself, yet he will stop at nothing to put others in a better place even at his own expense.
Youta tends to roll with punches, and he would rather admit that he was in the wrong than try to fight back with another person. After all, his sources of happiness come from his environment. If others are happy, Youta is happy too. He is incredibly genuine about those feelings as well and is not physically capable of lying. In fact, he maybe be the most honest person that one may meet, not abrasively honest, but an honesty that makes people feel comfortable around him. His sense of humor is generally self-depreciating, and no one actually knows whether he truly believes it or whether it is just a farce for people to laugh at.
HISTORY Youta grew up in a painfully average family of two parents and two children living in the Seodaemun District of Seoul. As the oldest sibling, his Korean father and his Japanese mother took extreme care to ensure that they groomed and preened their firstborn child for success (firstborn son at that). However, both children were given the same opportunities and treated with the same hand of discipline. They grew up speaking both Korean and Japanese, attending separate language classes to gain a better grasp of English, all while being given piano lessons in between. Both received stellar marks, and the Song family's parents were near convinced that their children were made for greater things and would exceed their own positions despite the fact that both Youta and his sister did grow up with a comfortable amount of money.
However, Youta's mother was beginning to catch on that there was a suspicious white sedan that drove off as soon as she pulled into the driveway with groceries. There were multiple calls with another woman's voice on the other end of the line who would quickly apologize for calling the wrong number before hanging up. She'd thought it was strange how it had been the same woman who called her husband's phone when he left it at home, only to discover that her husband had been seeing another woman behind her back. During Youta's senior year of high school, the final stretch of grade school, she returned with signed divorce papers, gathered her belongings, and left without a word.
Life went on for Youta though. Despite wondering whether he should have been more alert around his father and whether he should have pulled his father aside about his affair, Youta continued his education and attended Yonsei University through an acquired scholarship. He intended on graduating in a pre-law program, though things didn't turn out too well. His study habits became poor and he stopped speaking with his sister. After failing out of his classes, his father shut the door on him.
There were no more opportunities left in Seoul for him.
So Youta also gathered his belongings and flew out to Japan where his grandparents on his mother's side lived. Although he is still grateful for their "hospitality" to this day, he did not enjoy being a prisoner in their apartment building where he was treated like an unpaid cleaning person. He resented every day that he was there, quietly packed his belongings, wrote a note thanking his grandparents for their sacrifices for his sake, then silently slipped out of the building. Since that day, Youta has found himself a rundown apartment that looks more like a shack than a living area. He lives off of tips that he receives by playing at local cafés and bars, along with small pays that he receives from the restaurant owners. It isn't a comfortable living by any means, but at least it pays the rent for him.
He doesn't really think he has a right to complain. At least he's happy. Kind of.
APPEARANCE Youta never boasted a particularly muscular or powerful frame. In fact, his build would be fitting for a petite person, but his height has caused him to appear a little lankier to others (not that he's particularly tall, just that his limbs are much skinnier than muscular). He has a light complexion and smooth hands (and long, slender piano fingers despite slight calluses from working under his grandparents), making it easy to tell that he spent the majority of his younger years indoor with a pencil in hand and paper with mathematical formulas sprawled across it. His hair color is a tawny brown bordering orange, definitely not natural. He doesn't speak of getting his hair dyed though, as if he'd been dragged to the hair salon against his own will. He is in need of a haircut, but his long bangs don't seem to bother him. Youta's natural eye color is brown, though he does wear gray-blue contacts over them.
OTHER FEATURES Aside from his blue contacts, Youta doesn't appear to keep anything unique on his person. Neither of his parents would have approved piercings of any kind.

OTHER INFORMATION
TALENTS & SKILLS Youta has been playing the piano ever since he was four years old. Although he had only taken lessons for ten years, he is incredibly adept at sight-reading and improvisation and has been hired a couple of times as an accompanying instrumentalist. His hobby is taking a song and seamlessly translating it into a different style of playing.
He also tells bad jokes. They're really bad. Youta thinks they're great jokes though. His only moderately good jokes seem to be the Konglish ones (or at least, he's most amused by them). He enjoys a good pun here and there.
Youta is trilingual, fluent in Japanese, Korean, and English. However, his English is very formal considering that he has always used it in a classroom setting and never in conversation. In general, however, no matter the language, he is easily confused by colloquialisms.
ETCETERA Once upon a time, Youta was in love with a woman. She brought a set of blue contacts in a box and mentioned that she thought he'd look nice with them. Despite the fact that they broke up with one another, Youta still wears the contacts and doesn't seem to be able to forget about her. On the other hand, the reason why he still keeps them around is to remind himself that he's no-good at relationships.
Youta is also a very bright person, though his confidence in his study skills have reached an all-time low of 0% ever since failing out of college.
His favorite composers are Chopin, Debussy, Ryuichi Sakamoto, and Yiruma, though he appears to enjoy playing ragtime and jazz music the most.
Youta has also seen his share of the world. Living in urban Japan, he has seen plenty of idols take nosedives in their careers and he's heard many a sob story while playing freelance for cafés and bars, particularly in the bars. He always has his fingers crossed for new idols' success.
