PERSONALITY If you were to meet Kotone during her off hours- when she is not actively being "Kokoro", you might use the word distant to describe her. She often seems as if she's thinking about something else, something much more important than what is here and now. It would be unfair to say that she is cold, though. She is sympathetic when it is required of her, cheerful most of the time and seemingly unaffected by bad news or the moods of others. There is a kind of solidarity in her manner and lends itself to the reliance of other people. Kotone herself though is fiercely independent, though she may not look like much. She doesn't have a typical sense of humor, preferring dry wit to silly jokes or pranks.
When Kotone steps up in front of a crowd, she transforms, and not even by her own conscious decision. She shines. Her entire being is filled with the sort of passion that not everyone in the industry possesses. It is as if she were born to be on stage. Make no mistake, Kotone lives and dies with music on her lips. She also loves the fans, the ones who are making her dreams a reality. She tends to be the most enthusiastic during meet and greets, the most open during interviews. She interacts more with her fans than anyone else, and anybody would be able to see that she takes her idol status seriously, never getting involved with scandal or controversy. She is very careful about maintaining her image.
Even so, Kotone is reserved, and she tends to keep others an arm's length away. She finds men to be untrustworthy, due to what has happened in her past. HISTORY "Sugimoto Kotone" didn't exist two years ago. Before then, she was known as Song Mi-Rang. She lived in the Seodaemun District of Seoul with her mother, father, and older brother, Youta. She was groomed for success early on in life, though they had never envisioned that their daughter would one day become an idol. She was rigorously trained in classical piano alongside her brother, and the two took language classes in order to become proficient in both Korean and Japanese. She acquired her work ethic here, and excelled with hard work and diligence. In between all that, though, Mi-Rang sought out the light-hearted songs of the then-newly debuted Afternoon Delight. She adored all of the members, but her parents frowned upon her choice of role model.
Mi-Rang didn't care, she kept her love of idol culture a secret and practiced in private. She emulated their dances in her room and sang in choir after school to train her voice. Her schedule was rigorous, but Kotone never complained. She lead a comfortable life, and she and Youta were very close. Until that terrible thing happened.
Just like that, the mother that Mi-Rang had relied on all her life, who had helped her become what she was, left. She blamed her father for everything. She hated him for splitting their family apart with his affair. This also happened to be a year before Youta left to go to university, which meant that she would soon be left alone with her father. She couldn't stand that. So she saved up her money for that year and cut ties with all of her friends in Korea. And when Youta left, so did she. Staying in Seoul had become unbearable, and she had enough money for a one-way ticket to Tokyo.
She stayed at hostels meant for travelers in between working her job at a clothing store. Every time she heard about an audition for new trainees, she went, dressed to the nines and ready to show them what she had been wanting her whole life. Nobody called her back. She was beginning to lose hope when a flyer showed up outside her store, recruiting for GEM247. It was as if fate had intervened. When she came to the audition, there were an assortment of instruments presented to her, unlike in the others. Instead of dancing, Kotone sat down at a piano and played her heart out, singing the lyrics to one of the songs she remembered from her childhood listening to this same group.
They took her in as a trainee, and that was when her life started anew.
They changed everything about her. She became Sugimoto Kotone, still a half-Japanese, half-Korean girl, but this time she was born in Hokkaido, a Japanese citizen from the start. She attended a private boarding school in Korea, which explained her proficiency with Korean and the lack of school records in Japan for her. The company closed up any holes, even her citizenship. She didn't realize how much business and politics could be interlinked before then. But she didn't say a word. Her dreams were coming true, after all.
Now, she is a newly debuted member of the group, completing her two years in training behind the scenes and ready to show her face to the world as GEM247's piano soloist.
APPEARANCE Kotone is slim, with long limbs and average curves, filling out her shirts nicely with a C-cup. Like most performers, she strictly regulates her diet in order to stay that way. She has lean muscle on her arms and stomach from exercising those areas specifically. She mainly only does cardio and yoga to stay trim, as she worries about bulking unnecessarily. Her skin is rather pale, and slightly pink toned, milky and perfectly soft. She spends a lot of time maintaining it, and pressed her company to supply her and the rest of the group with the best products available. She researched them herself, of course.
Kotone's hair is black, but has been tinted so that it shines purple in the light. She prefers to put it in twin tails because it's so long and heavy, and has debated chopping it off more than once. It is naturally straight, though gravity helps. Her eyes are a dark brown, almost black, that are good at hiding her emotions. She is partial to tinted contacts, however. Kotone's face is heart-shaped, taping to a small chin and emphasizing her doe eyes. She doesn't like to show her teeth when smiling, thinking it looks strange.
She has had minor plastic surgery done since becoming a trainee, including lasering to improve her skin condition and a rhinoplasty to get rid of a bump in her nose.

TALENTS and SKILLS Kotone is incredibly skilled at playing the piano. Had she not pursued the idol lifestyle, she may have been welcome at a prestigious university like Youta. She has been playing since her fingers were strong enough to press down the keys, and can play anything set in front of her. Her talent lies in her ability to analyze the notes of a song quickly, whereas her brother always valued playing by ear. She can compose, which she also learned during her trainee time.
Due to her musical background and choir experience, Kotone's pitch is never off when she sings.
Kotone is fluent in three languages: Korean, Japanese and English. Her time as a trainee gave her English, and practice has made her accent much less noticeable.

She is technically proficient due to all the additional practice she puts in, but her dancing is not "wow" inspiring. Luckily it's not so obvious, and her other skills seem to make up for it.

Kotone's other goal aside from being an idol, is to graduate from GEM247 and become a solo artist one day.
