PERSONALITY Cool and silent type, that's what most would categorize Kurai as. It's not too far from the truth too! He's not one to talk much, mostly due to the fact that his full attention is usually elsewhere. He tends to space out, whether it's to listen to his music or if it's just his thoughts. He's a guy that has a good thing to say about everyone, though it's never quite apparent if he means it or not because of his usually blank expression.
He's more of a follower type, going along with whatever his friends say. If his friend were to jump off a metaphorical cliff, it's pretty likely he'd do the same, if they said to. That's not to say he has his limits. If he labels you as important, he will go out of his way to do what he believes is best for you.
When it comes to responsibilities, he is one to avoid. He doesn't much like work and if he doesn't have someone or something to spur him to action, he probably won't get it done. Once you get him spurred, he's a work horse not letting up until it's done and it's nearly perfect.
His memory is picture perfect. His brain works like a camera, putting a permanent picture in his head. So he remembers faces but names sometimes escape him. Unless you're an idol. expect him to fumble over your name until it's implanted.
Despite his usually blank expression, he can be very friendly and is the definition of a gentleman, helping when he can without need of thanks. Just don't expect him to stick around for a conversation afterwards. In fact, he would prefer it if you not feel obligated to talk to him.
He gets annoyed fairly easily whenever someone tries to pull him out of his thoughts. Kurai tends to favor his alone time with his thoughts so pulling him from them is not exactly a way to get him cheery. HISTORY Kurai was born in the city of Kochi, southwest of Tokyo. He was born to his mother who became pregnant with him shortly after she married his father. His mother works as a interior designer out of a small office and she kept her job after marrying despite her family's protests. His father had no problems with the extra income although it became hard to juggle work and caring for Kurai. So in the end, his mother took a break to raise him. It was around that time that his father died in a car accident. Kurai was still too young for it to impact him too heavily but his mother was devastated.
Despite that, she got back to work and managed to get a job that landed her and Kurai in Tokyo when Kurai was in his second year of junior high. He wasn't to happy with the change in scenery but he made due because even as a pre-teen he could see the exhaustion in his mother's face and recognize that despite the number of years that have passed that she still hadn't quite cleared his father's death from her mind.
So he bit his tongue, switched schools and took up music in the form of a guitar and singing, though he never sang in front of others not until he was recruited into the music club which was essentially a band lead by a self-centered guy who Kurai just went along with. He played the guitar for the group but didn't much like the music nor did he like the singing of their leader. He eventually said as much and the leader blew up in his face and told him that he wasn't needed and he could leave. Kurai left without a word, his guitar on his back.
What he didn't expect was a girl from the group to chase after him and say she liked his voice and that they should make their own music. Kurai smiled and accepted the offer.
He knew a bit about the girl simply from the rumors he'd been unlucky enough to have to hear. She was a party girl, and was highly active with drug use. Kurai wasn't one to judge on something like that, even though he himself never liked doing drugs. Despite that, they became best friends. If they weren't thinking of their next song, they were hanging out watching old horror movies or doing something equally entertaining.
After he met Saya, he became a bit more social. Or at least, he would get caught up in her social interactions and simply went along with it. Since he met Saya, he's made more friends than he has ever had, but his best friend will always be Saya.
APPEARANCE He stands somewhat tall and his body is toned from his regular exercise at school. He doesn't take much thought into making his physique very impressive. He doesn't have much body fat but he's exactly the lanky skinny type. His eyes are blue and his hair is black. He is known to periodically wear colored contacts, so it isn't too odd to see him with purple eyes, brown eyes, or red.
He favors skinny jeans and hoodies when he isn't in his school uniform. And if you see him off school campus he is usually sporting some headphones around his neck too. He tends to wear his guitar on his back wherever he goes, even in school much to the chagrin of his teachers.
OTHER FEATURES He does have a single piercing on his right upper ear that he doesn't wear during school. It isn't uncommon for him to not have it on outside of school simply because he'll forget to put it in.
