PERSONALITY When portraying herself as “Rose” (often pronounced as “Ro-zu” by those not familiar with the English language), Haru comes across as a confident, ambitious and warm-hearted adolescent girl. She rarely fumbles in front of an audience, always seems to know what side of her face fits the camera’s shot at any given time, and seems to fit the profile of what Japanese school-girls should inspire to be like. Yet this is truly just a facade.
Tanaka Haru is rather mean-spirited. Finding amusement in the misfortune of others, she revels in trouble and misfortune and her words often carry a cruel bite to them. Yet, she is quite subtle when expressing her temper or dislike. Rather than a fiery wave of wrath, her anger is cold and merciless and often delivered in the form of crushing humiliation, particularly toward those whom she may consider to be a “hindrance.”
She also seems to suffer from an acute case of boredom, only voicing genuine interest toward a few select things outside of her music and performances. Being in her company can be a challenge, as Haru often goes from lazing about to engaging in reckless behaviour with little more than a blink of an eye, yet she has never been one to tolerate others suffering on her behalf and is quite protective of the select few whom she genuinely cares about.
Despite her sharp edges, Haru is a dedicated performer. She gives, at the very minimum, a hundred percent toward anything associated to GEM247 and is diligent at maintaining her squeaky-clean image as “Rose.” This perfectionist attitude is what landed her the position of leader within GEM247. Not only because Haru maintains a mature and dedicated attitude when it comes to being an idol but more because she has no tolerance for anything that might damage her reputation. It goes without saying that should conflict arise between her and her fellow female idols Haru’s first instinct is to stamp it out entirely, only permitting such conflict to spill out away from the public eye. She is definitely more of a “drill sergeant” type of authority.
HISTORY Haru’s background is so terribly clichéd it might as well be an afternoon soap opera.
Her daddy was a well-known and popular divorce lawyer who got himself a much younger yet beautiful wife, all to impress and drive his family, friends and associates mad with jealousy. Yet, no matter what goals or dreams that his wife might have possessed, he couldn’t let her have a life outside of being his perfect trophy-wife. No, no, no. Her responsibility was to simply look pretty and raise their sole daughter, who came about a year after the beginning of their marriage. So Haru’s mummy did just that. A little too enthusiastically, actually. For by the time that Haru had reached four-years-old, her mother had become a notorious stage-mother.
Haru never stepped foot inside of a class-room. Her mother never allowed her daughter further than at arm’s reach, even taking it upon herself to home-school Haru. Yet, there was no real importance placed upon the usually important subjects – mathematics, history, etc. All of that came second to hours spent learning how to sing, how to dance, and even how to model. Personal fitness was also important to Haru’s mother; after all she wanted Haru to always maintain the ideal physical image that was expected of a girl her age. Swimming. Tennis. Equestrian. Any sport that did not risk Haru bruising her skin, her mother encouraged her daughter to partake in.
A small fortune was invested into the “bright future” that Haru was always promised. And it paid off. At the age of fifteen, Haru auditioned for a place within the new musical company GEM’s female idol group and snagged herself a key position. Taking on the alias “Rose”, she never looked back. Literally.
Despite entering the entertainment industry as her mother had always dreamed, Haru holds strong resentment toward both of her parents. Her icy and thrill-seeking behaviour? Haru blames her parents’ less than stellar parenting for a lack of warm childhood memories and keeps herself distant to them, using her hectic schedule as an idol as an excuse to restrict verbal communication with them to seasonal holidays.
If Haru sought professional treatment for her emotional issues she’d probably be as wholesome in personality as she pretends to be when on stage. Yet, she considers it to be a better investment on her behalf to splurge on fast cars and extreme sports than actual therapy.
APPEARANCE It was always firmly drilled into Haru as a child that she had to keep herself looking perfect to others – ugly people did not make it into showbiz. And at the age of seventeen, it is clear that Haru takes great care with her appearance.
She stands just above what is considered to be the average height for Japanese women within her age group. She also maintains a slender physique, athletically toned from a strict daily training schedule featuring, but not restricted to, dancing and Pilates. TALENTS & SKILLS Haru is an accomplished vocalist and is able to project her voice effortlessly no matter what sort of scenery that she is in without straining her vocal chords, she also knows how to speak English fluently and can sing just as well in English as she can in Japanese. Her voice is considered to be unique due to how deep in tone it is, uncommon for most female vocalists. Haru rarely shows any difficulty in hitting strong or long-lasting notes.
On her mother’s insistence, Haru has dabbled in various forms of dancing: jazz, ballroom, ballet, tap, hip-hop, etc. Though not the strongest dancer within GEM247 she certainly isn’t shabby. Her favourite form is hip-hop and recently she has taken to learning how to crump professionally.
