biography Although he is fully Japanese, Sakurai Naito seems to always be mistaken for a foreigner at home in Tokyo. Technically, he is, having been born in Germany, though he's still always surprised by it, feeling his looks should get him by, despite the pink hair and odd-colored eyes. But from the day he was born, he had moved around so much, he honestly still can't think of a single country to call home. His parents both came from families with a lot of money, giving them the free time and resources to do as they pleased, and what they wanted most was to travel. Even one day unexpectedly finding that they were going to have a child did little to slow them down, and before he came into the world, he'd actually managed to visit yet three other countries. Once Naito arrived, however, the two decided to try and settle someplace to give their son some kind of stability, but that only lasted a few years at a time before the wanderlust hit them again. Before finally being (briefly) tied to Tokyo due to Naito's ambition to become an idol, the family lived in Germany, Italy, England, Iceland, France and Australia. Perhaps due to all of the bouncing around, Naito always found it hard to make friends, since he knew he would inevitably leave them. So he buried himself in solo activities like music and games instead, leading a fairly quiet and lonely life. Besides that, he had an uneventful childhood, making up for the lack of friends with those other activities, along with learning to play violin, due to his love of music. Violin took up a lot of his time anyway, so he often told himself that it was lucky he didn't have to do things like cancel plans with anyone for practice, and could fully focus. By the time he was thirteen, he had a very strong dream of becoming a musician of some kind, though when he started posting videos of his violin versions of game and anime music online, he didn't expect the kind of offers he got. Being an idol wasn't his first choice, but it always seemed like fun, and he would be performing either way. Since he was contacted due to his violin performances, he wasn't completely prepared to audition without it, and he failed the first time. By then, it had become his goal, though, and he worked hard so that he would pass the next one, even though it meant staying behind when his parents finally decided to wander again. Passing the audition had become the most important thing to him. Being thoroughly committed to the dream, he opted to stay with a relative and continue working, which eventually paid off when he was able to debut as a member of Super Rangers. It has now been at least a year since he's seen his parents, but they send postcards and letters when they can.
