Known throughout the world as Rose, or Ro-zu, Tanaka Haru is the leader of the internationally popular all-female Japanese idol group GEM247. Popular for her Lolita-like image, Haru’s defining features as Rose are her scarlet-red eyes, her “boyish” figure and her unusually deep, but powerful, vocals. Portrayed as a mature, energetic and kind-hearted adolescent, Rose is highly marketable to the Japanese media and is an inspiration for most teenage girls. However, it truly is a façade. Tanaka Haru is more spice than sugar. A perfectionist when it comes to her work, she seems perpetually bored with her life and often partakes in reckless behaviour. Her emotional scars run deep but she has no interest in mending them with anything else but duct tape, and shows little regard for those around her. A destructive force. It’s Haru’s relentlessness that has contributed to Gem247’s remarkable success but it is also what threatens to trip her should she be careless. | Maintaining long lasting friendships is a skill that Haru has never successfully mastered. It’s no secret, even to her, that her personality often rubs people the wrong way. And though Haru could pretend to be charming, away from the camera she doesn’t see the point. It’s so much easier to call people out on their stupidity and laugh when they fall. The type of people whom Haru tends to like are, ironically, those who are true to themselves. They could be a womanizing idiot or a clinging crybaby but so long as they accepted that about themselves, Haru will do the same. Deep down, she hopes that she’ll receive the same treatment in return. Being prone to spontaneous acts of recklessness, Haru can only safely be friends with people who are able to keep up with her wandering attention span. Bitch one too many times about her inability to stick to the designated driving speed on the Japanese streets and she’ll stop inviting you to spend time with her. Friends to Haru might as well be her family, and whilst she might never admit to it she becomes quite protective of her friends/family. Doing just about anything for them, even at the cost of herself. | It would be completely unclassy of Haru to allow any sort of conflict to tarnish her spotlight, so she’ll never allow herself to be caught or quoted speaking badly of others or acting spitefully. Away from the media, however, she can be terribly malicious. A fan of The Goddess’ work, Haru also prefers spreading rumours, whether truthful or not, and shaming those who tread on her toes. Her anger isn’t a hot volatile thing but instead simmers away concealed beneath insincere smiles and cold calculated remarks, deliberately delivered to be taken quite personally. Her bitter vindictiveness often makes Haru a more formidable enemy than most. Yet, as nasty as she can be, Haru considers her actions to be entirely for the sake of business. Rarely does she ever allow herself to become personally invested into her schemes, which might explain her complete lack of remorse for the things that she does. So Haru wouldn’t actually call anyone her “enemy” and doesn’t hold a grudge once she believes that “business” has been taken care of. It’s a lot easier to hate Tanaka Haru than to actually be hated by her. | Romance is strictly forbidden within the idol circles and GEM expects Haru to maintain her focus entirely on maintaining and improving GEM247’s success. And for the most part she does. However, her wandering attention span pretty much is the bane of her existence and once she is permitted free-time handsome men always seem to frequent the places that she goes to in order to relax. To her credit, Haru rarely ever does more than flirt. So long as no commitments are established she figures that she hasn’t actually broken any rules. Unfortunately, this has also caused a number of rumours to form claiming that “Rose” is dating So-and-So. And it rarely impresses Haru’s manager that she finds such rumours to be more amusing than offensive. Romance has always been messy for Haru. She’s almost definitely emotionally stunted. And once in a relationship it doesn’t take long for her to start feeling insecure and pressured to meet imaginary expectations that she has convinced herself her current partner expects her to meet. Her flighty nature also doesn’t make her the easiest girlfriend to have. So her relationships have always been short and temporary. Yet, this doesn’t mean that she’s a lost cause yet, and it would be nice for someone to see past the emotional scarring and to appreciate the wreck that she is. And though she isn’t actually allowed to date anyone, for the right person Haru could be persuaded to overlook such rules. |
